2013: Ondo political leaders disagree on ‘Akoko agenda’

By DAYo JOHNSON, Akure

A chieftain of the Labour Party, LP, in Ondo State and the Commissioner for Sports and Youths Development, Alhaji Yekini Olanipekun, says the much talked about “Akoko agenda” is a creation of some individual to achieve their selfish ambitions.

Many leaders of the political parties in the state are preaching the agenda in which they are saying that it is the turn of the Akoko area of the state to produce the next governor in 2013.

Some leaders of the LP in the state, including the former chairman of the party, Dr Olaiya Oni, have insisted that it is the turn of the area while many members of other political parties have declared their governorship ambition.

Olanipekun, one of the prominent leaders from Akoko, said the “so-called Akoko agenda should be shunned.

According to him, “It is not written in any constitution that an Akoko person should be governor in 2013. We should be careful in handling this issue.”

“The Akoko agenda 2013 is the creation of some people and I want you to resist any attempt by people to use you to achieve their selfish ambition.

He therefore urged youths in Akokoland to resist any attempt by any group to lure them into causing chaos through propaganda, ahead of the 2013 governorship election in the state.

Olanipekun pleaded with the youths to continue to support the administration of Governor Olusegun Mimiko as a way of reciprocating his kind gestures towards the people of Akokoland.
