Eagles’ captain Joseph Yobo has downplayed the importance of entering the history books as the most capped Nigerian player. Rather he is more interested in seeing Nigeria beat Guinea handsomely and earn a ticket to play in next year’s Nations Cup.
Yobo will make his 83rd appearance for the Eagles on Saturday. And on Wednesday against Ghana in London he will equal Nwankwo Kanu and Muda Lawal’s 84 all time highest appearance for the Eagles.
Yobo declared that winning against Guinea was very important to him and not how many times he has played for Nigeria.
“What is important is winning against Guinea. I will leave the counting of how many times I have played to you,” said Yobo.
Yobo started his international career with the Eagles in 2001. He has scored 6 goals from his 81 appearances the last being his last gasp header that saved the Eagles in their Nations Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa.
