No fewer than two persons were confirmed dead over the week after a commercial speed boat that was conveying passengers from Kirikiri water side to Aloro village capsized mid-stream.
Reports from the Marine Police station, Ikoyi, Lagos, revealed that a commercial speed boat that was conveying ten passengers from kirikiri water side to Aloro village capsized mid-stream.
Some of the passengers were however rescued by sympathizers who swung into action after the boat capsized. Two people lost their lives at the accident.
The bewildered passengers, some of whom have not experienced marine accident, were shocked and could not narrate their experiences when approached.
Unconfirmed sources gave the names of the victims simply as; Jimmy and Segun, while there are speculations that more people may have drowned also. One of the rescued passengers however gave details of how the incident happened. According to him, “we were having a wonderful ride until we found ourselves in the river. I thought I was almost dying because I have not had this experience before. Thank God I was rescued.”
It was also gathered that corpses of some of the victims have been recovered and taken to the mortuary awaiting identification by family members.
