Jos—The Plateau State Government has signed a N4.5 billion contract for the construction of a new Government House in line with an earlier promise by Governor Jonah Jang to do so.
Secretary to the State Government, Professor Shedrach Best, said at the signing of the contract, yesterday that the two existing government houses one of which currently serves as the Governor’s Office fell short of the requirements for modern governance.
He said a befitting Government House was needed in line with the 10-point agenda of the administration, adding that the edifice would be second to none in the country when completed.
He said the administration wants to be remembered for giving the state a befitting Government House and other projects, urging the people to take interest in the project which he described as their own and not see it as just another government project.
Best signed the contract on behalf of the government while an official of the contractor, Eagle Construction Limited, Mr. Noca Giacofo, signed for the company.
Governor Jang had, since assuming office in 2007, been living in his personal residence at Du, while the living quarters of the present Government House in Rayfield has been converted to a Presidential Lodge. The project is expected to be completed in 36 months.
