BENIN—Edo State Government has appealed to corporate bodies in the state to partner with government to tackle youth unemployment.

Governor Adams Oshio-mhole has, meanwhile, assured the people that government will judiciously use the N25 billion it recently borrowed from the capital market to make positive improvement on their lives.

Oshiomhole’s promise came on the heels of insinuations on government’s intention to source funds from the capital market for the provision of infrastructures in the state.

The governor, who gave the assurance in his goodwill message during the 15th Annual Conference of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers in Benin, said his administration had committed N180 billion to infrastructural development and urban renewal.

He said: “I want to thank you for the role you played in ensuring that Edo State successfully accessed N25 billion from the capital market. I also want to appreciate the roles of Nigerian Stock Exchange, Securities and Exchange Commission and of course, various stockbrokers.

“What is important, however, is for me to re-assure you that we have tried and are doing everything we can to ensure that we keep our word because trust is the basis of market transaction.”

Meanwhile, state Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Anita Evbuomwan, was represented by the Permanent Secretary during the presentation of a 35-seater Coaster bus to National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, secretariat by Zenith Bank Plc.
