Nigeria’s candidate qualifies for ICC judges elections – Panel
New York – The Independent Panel on International Criminal Court (ICC) Judicial Elections, has found Nigeria’s candidate and 14 others ”qualified” to run for the judges elections set for New York in December.
The Panel is composed of international law and judicial experts from around the world, and represents both civil and common law systems.
Four other candidates reviewed by the Panel, from Tunisia, Cyprus, Costa Rica and Mexico were found to be “unqualified,” according to a report dated Oct. 26 and published by the Panel in New York.
The Panel’s view and assessments of judicial candidates are strictly its own.
Mr Chile Eboe-Osuji, 49, Nigeria’s candidate to the elections, has already received endorsements from ECOWAS and the African Union.
There are 19 candidates running for the six seats.
The ICC is a permanent international court, which investigates and tries individuals accused of committing genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes. (NAN)
