The president of the Nigeria Football Federation Alhaji Aminu Maigari has assured Nigerians that the decision on the future of Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia will be taken soon.
Maigari said that despite Nigeria’s ouster from next year’s Nations Cup, the Super Eagles will still play a friendly on the next FIFA-free window with a coach in place.
“I cannot tell you who would lead the team for the friendly, but I can assure you that we shall have a coach who would take charge before then. It might be Samson Siasia or not, but I can tell you that a coach will lead Nigeria to play a friendly on that day.” Maigari said.
Surprise Nations Cup qualifiers Botswana are one of the teams who want to tackle the Eagles, officials disclosed.
The technical committee of the NFF had already advised that Siasia be replaced by a foreign coach and the executive committee headed by Maigari is expected to meet most likely next week.
In the mean time, the secretary of the technical committee, Emmanuel Ikpeme, had already informed reporters that Siasia’s contract is very clear as regards not meeting the target of qualifying Nigeria to the semi-final of the 2012 Nations Cup.
“Siasia’s contract as regards termination is very clear if set targets are not met, but it is left for the executive committee to decide on this,” said Ikpeme.
