Jaling – Mrs Mary Wakawa, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Taraba has advised commercial motorcyclists against the use of specialised motorcycles for their business.
Wakawa, who spoke on Monday in Jalingo, said the corps had noted a particular brand of motorcycle that was always involved in accidents.
“The high rate of motorcycle accident in the state became a source of concern to the corps in recent times.
“When we carried out investigation, we discovered that a particular brand, known as boxer was responsible for over 70 per cent of the accidents.
“It is important for the motorcycle operators to know that some of these brands are only meant for competition, not for other purposes.’’
Wakawa added that a further investigation on the Boxer brand revealed that its turning ability was very fast thereby making it too sensitive for commercial purpose.
She disclosed that the corps was already in talks with the relevant stakeholders to find ways of stopping the use of Boxer for commercial activities in the state.
Wakawa urged the motorcyclists to always consider their lives, those of the passengers and other road users while going about their business.
She advised road users to consider the ‘ember’ months as every other month and do things orderly in order to reduce the anxiety that was already in the air about major festivities. (NAN)
