Former coach of Shooting Stars Football Club, Niyi Akande has said that Samson Siasia’s lack of managerial skill was his major undoing during his spell as Eagles coach.
It is on record that Siasia had disagreements with Eagles top stars like Osaze Odemwingie, John Obi Mikel and Vincent Enyeama and Akande believes that these issues contributed to the players’ seeming reluctance in giving their best to the team.
Akande, who was also a former Falcons coach, told Saturday Vanguard sports that Siasia’s inability to keep his team together frustrated his efforts in moving the country’s football ahead.
He called on the Nigeria Football Federation to employ only coaches who are technically and tactically sound in football management.
According to him,”it is a known fact that Nigerian football is facing difficult times, but be that as it may, what Nigeria needs now is someone who can manage the team properly, not somebody who always fights with his players.
Siasia was not suited for the job of managing the senior national team. Someone who is arrogant has no business coaching a team like the national team. Someone who cannot work with his coaches does not deserve Eagles job,” he added.
