Bus driver wants FG to ban night journey

Maiduguri – Mr Ositadinma Ikwelugu , t, the National Chairman of Luxurious Bus Drivers Association of Nigeria, has urged the Federal government to stop motorists from embarking on night journey.

Ikwelugu, who made the call while speaking on Saturday in Maiduguri, noted that roads across the country were no longer safe at night.

“Armed robbers are permanently stationed and carry out their nocturnal operations on the high ways. We often run into them and in most cases get involved in accidents.

“Had it been the journey is in day time, we will get a hint or sight them from afar and park our vehicles to seek security agents’ assistance.”

The chairman also lamented that most of the nation’s roads were in bad shape and therefore, unfavourable for night trips.

He said that drivers often ran into potholes and gutters that usually resulted in serious accidents.

“ If it were in a broad day light, drivers would have dodged the portion and avert the accident.”

Ikwelugu appealed to the government to rehabilitate all roads and beef up security on the nation’s highways to facilitate free movement of persons and goods.

“We are in the ember months now which is a busy period for armed robbers.

“If drastic measures are not taken to chase away the criminals on the nation’s roads, passengers and drivers will bear the consequences,” he said. (NAN)
