A former Board member of the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Brigadier General Gregory Adebiyi has warned against any move by the football authorities to engage another coach for the Super Eagles, without advertising for the position, as it would amount to repeating the mistakes of the past which yielded no dividends for the country.
Speaking in Lagos, Brigadier-General Adebiyi, a former chairman of the NFF technical committee said the football body needed to take three steps in its move to correct the ills of football in the country.
“To me, the board should advertise for positions of a head of the technical department, a physical trainer for the team, a coach, technical adviser or manager so that people with requisite qualifications and experience can apply.”
According to him, from the list of those who apply for advertised positions, “the NFF can shortlist , screen and select competent persons to fill those positions. The combination of these people will produce the result we seriously need in football.”
Adebiyi, who was also former director of the Nigeria Army Sports and Physical Education directorate, reminded the football house that coaches employed in the past had never added any value to football because they found themselves doing Advertise Eagles coaching job, others, Adebiyi tells NFF the wrong jobs.
“Right now my advice is that anybody who has not done a coaching course for six months and above was unqualified to handle the national team and should never be considered. If you employ a coach without a trainer and ignore having a competent hand as technical director and staff to work with the coach, failure will continue to be the result,” he said.
