According to him, the initiative would create jobs to tackle the issue of unemployment in the state and the economy at large. “At present, the governor is embarking on creation of jobs for the indigenes. He is putting measures in place to establish industries in each of the 31 councils in the state and to revamp ailing industries. The indigenes are happy about this idea and are in full support of what the governor wants to do”, he said.
He added, “Aside from job creation, the governor is embarking on a transformation programme for the entire state. He started by giving the indigenes free education, which is the basic form of empowerment for individual development in the society. He also approved payment of the new minimum wage of N18.000 in the state. He went further to stop the business of commercial motor-cycles in Uyo, by providing all those involved in the business with tri-cyles as alternative means of livelihood”.
“We should appreciate the effort of government on major projects in the sate. The state government has already completed the power plants in the state and is providing good roads for industrial growth. The government also completed the airport project, which is rapidly opening up the state for foreign investments.
“This tenure, the governor is working on creating industries for the indigenes to be gainfully employed. Once this is done, the problem of unemployment in the state would be a thing of the past. Also, there is Ibom industrial sea-port project, where we are going to have a deep seaport in the state”.
