Lagos - Promise Nwachukwu, Team Manager of Heartland FC of Owerri has attributed their 1-0 Federation’s Cup victory over Enyimba of Aba to focus and determination.
Nwachukwu told newsmen on Sunday night in Lagos that the team did not relent in their drive to win the trophy.
“I am overwhelmed and I don’t know what to say. I give God all the glory for making it possible for us to win.
“Our victory came at the right time and it will spur us to greater things in the years ahead,’’ he said.
The team manager also commended the organisation and officiating of the final, which he described as well conducted.
One of the defenders of Heartland, Joseph Jackson, also praised the spirit in the team which he noted contributed to their victory.
“I think determination, oneness and confidence contributed to our victory. We were dogged and determined.
Another defender, Emmanuel Olowo said that they had confidence in the team’s ability to lift the trophy.
“This trophy has eluded the club for a very long time and we are so happy to finally win it for our management and fans,’’ Olowo said.
Meanwhile, Rasheed Oladoye of Enyimba blamed their loss on “hard” luck.
“That was how God wanted it to be because we played well but luck was not on our side to score the goals that reversed the trend for us,’’ Oladoye said.
Enyimba defender John Atawo insisted the defeat would not affect their fortunes in the match against Morocco in the CAF Champions League in October.
“The Federation Cup is a different ball game from the Champions League. This defeat will not in any way affect our continental assignment,’’ Atawo said. (NAN)
