Edo gets new Head of Service

Benin—Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State has administered the oath of office on Princess Ekiuwa lnneh as the new Head of Service of the state urging her to contribute her quota to the advancement of the state Civil Service.

Speaking at the swearing in at the Government House Benin City, Governor Oshiomhole said the appointment was based on merit adding that “our capacity to deliver on our obligation to our people depends on the quality of leadership and the quality of  judgement of leaders.”

According to the governor “since l assumed office, l  had the opportunity to work with a number of senior officers including Permanent Secretaries and Directors. Each time we had an assignment we considered difficult and require people with drive, energy, creativity initiative we had always identified Mrs Inneh for such assignments.”

Comrade Oshiomhole noted that the Head of Service had been helpful in all beats she had found herself.

The Governor explained that on assumption of office “it was clear we were going to indentify those areas that were of utmost importance. In indentifying those areas we also had to indentify Permanent Secretaries with the requisite competence to help us add value to those sectors, which was why we included her name in the Ministry of Finance which is at the heart of government finances.

The Government used the opportunity to renew his appeal to the civil servants, noting “that what you get will be a function of what you a you are.

“I want to assure our civil servants that everybody has the opportunity to rise to the highest position. It all depends of what you are capable of doing”, he noted.

While he assured the new Head of Service of the necessary co-operation to succeed in her new assignment, Comrade Oshiomole enjoined her to introduce fresh initiatives to tackle wastages in the system, as well training and retraining of civil servants to enhance productivity.

In her response, the new Head of Service thanked the Governor for the appointment and promised to do her best to justify the confidence reposed in her.

“I pledge my unalloyed loyalty to the government and I will do justice to all manner of persons. I will perform my duties diligently. I will not let you down”, she said.

Born on 14th November,1953, Princess Mrs Ekiuwa Inneh attended the University of Benin and joined the civil service in 1987. She was the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, before her present appointment.
