Eleven days after Nigeria protested to CAF over fixing of the Nations Cup qualifier at 2 pm, nothing has been heard from the continent’s football governing body.
The heat of the sun is always harsh about 2 pm and Nigeria Football Federation felt that such time would not augur well for good football and asked for a change.
Now that nothing has been heard from CAF, the federation will go ahead to plan for an afternoon match. And coach Samson Siasia says he would have no choice than to plan for the exigencies of the weather at the time.
“The moment the players come in we will start training at 2pm daily. It may be tough for the players but after few days they are expected to adjust. I’m sure that they will adapt to the afternoon weather,” Siasia said, adding “we will take on Guinea and beat them.
I am asking the whole country not to panic. We will win that match. We have the players to win the match and that’s why I’m confident.
I would have preferred to play in the evening but CAF has insisted that it will be at 2 pm. We will be ready for the time. I’m optimistic that we will be at the Nations Cup and we will do well there.”
