UYO- Governor Godswill Akpabio of Akwa Ibom State has charged monarchs in the country to play their roles to stamp out violent crime, bombings and kidnappings in their domains.

Akpabio, who extolled the royal institution and Nigerian monarchs for remaining the only institution that had not been politicised, commended the monarchs, including the new Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, HRH Ime Udousoro, following his selection and subsequent swearing in as the 18th Chairman of the royal institution in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking shortly after the swearing in to mark the 24th anniversary of the state creation, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Projects, Mr. David Etuk, said royal fathers would partner with government at all levels to ensure peace and help stem the rising wave of violence in the country.

Etuk commended the governor for keeping to his promise during electioneering of giving the people of Nsit Ibom a paramount ruler, after the stool had remained vacant for over three years.

He appealed to the chiefs from the area to rally round the royal father to help him make a difference and prayed God to give him the wisdom to discharge his duties, as demanded by the tradition of the people, without fear or favour.
