LAGOS — Contrary toinsinuations that Apapa-Iganmu Local Council Development Area of Lagos State, was paying street urchins popularly known as area boys, Chairman of the council, Dr. Samuel Adedayo, has denied the speculations, describing same as a calculated attempt to discredit his achievements.
Addressing newsmen, Adedayo said he never paid any area boy in his council, explaining that the so-called area boys were the teeming youths his administration had provided with jobs.
He said he had not only provided jobs for the people and invested in infrastructure and economic empowerment, but that his administration had donated computers and other working materials and upgraded vocational centres in the area to promote skills acquisition for youths of the council.
“My administration had renovated many primary schools, including the Baptist Primary School in Marine Beach and many others. We provided 12,000 packs of exercise books, 12,000 school uniforms, and 12,000 pairs of school sandals to public schools within the council area,” he said.
