Kefas Williams and Aminat Olowoira were victors in both the male and female categories of this month’s ‘Emzor Wellness Race’.
The event, which had 1,068 participants was competed for by 40 professionals athletes.
Both Olowoira and Williams who have won the event close to eight times had represented their states in the national competitions. Unlike the previous month, the 8 kilometres event took Olowoira 29mins, :38secs, breaking the previous record of 30 minutes. Speaking on the race, the former Lagos State athletics coach, Mr. Saheed Alabi, commended Emzor Pharmaceutical Industries Limited for allowing up-and-coming athletes exhibit their skills.
Alabi, who said most of the professionals participating in the race are Grade 1 athletes, advised Emzor to assist in exposing participants to international competitions.
He urged other companies to emulate pharmaceutical company by organizing sporting events for youths, stressing that, “Emzor has done very wonderfully. If a company like this is able to bring all the up- and- coming athletes to compete together, they will do better in competitions.”
The Executive Director, Emzor subsidiaries/ Special Projects, Marcel Ezeoke, said the 25th edition would be the biggest edition ever.
According to Ezeoke, the believe that health is wealth and a healthy nation is capable of growing wealth in all sectors of the economy informed the monthly event, adding, “This monthly contest serves as an avenue for us collectively to exercise once a month as one big family. ”
