Communications Technology Minister to open WAFICT 2011

As preparations hit top gear for the 2011 edition of the West African ICT Congress, the Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson, has confirmed her attendance having been invited as the chief special guest of honour. The minister, who will be joined by other ministers, regulators, and dignitaries from West Africa and beyond, will also declare the Congress open.

WAFICT Congress, which is holds at the new Eko Expo Hall of Eko Hotel, Lagos, from October 18 -20 is part of celebrations to mark 10 years of Telecom Revolution in Nigeria.

Mrs. Johnson, while confirming her attendance during a brief meeting in her office in Abuja with organisers of the event, commended the place of the event in the progress the ICT industry, has made in Nigeria over the years.

With the theme “The Emerging New Frontier: Opportunities and Potentials for Deployment of Broadband Services”, the 2011 edition of the WAFICT Congress is the third in series.

The event is designed to open the sub-region to the many challenges that must be surmounted if more achievements are to be made in the ICT revolution.

WAFICT Congress 2011 is being organised in conjunction with the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation and supported by the Nigerian Communications Commission.

According to Mr Mkpe Abang, Editor-in-chief of IT &Telecom Digest Magazine, organisers of the event, already, corporate organisations such as Airtel Nigeria, Visafone Communications, MTN, Globacom and Phase 3 Telecom, among others, have thrown their weights behind the Congress as Sponsors, while many others have also indicated interest to participate at the event.

Speakers and participants from within West Africa and beyond are expected to grace the event, while leading ICT ministers across the sub-region are also on the line-up of attendees.
