62 year old mother strangled to death in Benin

BENIN – A 62-year mother of six simply identified as Felicia Agbonyima weekend, was alleged to have been strangled to death and dumped in a dry well measuring over 15 kilometers by unknown persons on Sunday at Ahor community, near Benin in Uhunmwonde Local Government area of Edo State.

The incident, Vanguard gathered is causing panic among the residents of the sleeping community as majority of them now sleep with one eye closed.

Narrating the ordeal of the family to journalists in Benin yesterday, Jolly Agbonyima, one of the children of the deceased said, “We hail from the community, but reside at No. 20 Osagiede Street, off Igun Street, Benin City”, and explained that his mother travelled to the village to attend a wake keep on Friday night.

She was allegedly said to have been spotted on Saturday morning but disappeared soon afterwards, he said just as he added that her sudden disappearance led to a search for her whereabouts until she was found dead, naked and blind folded in a deep well at No. 20 Evbuoka road, Ahor a stone throw from where the burial ceremony took place.

The Crime Officer of Ahor Police Post, who craves for anonymity, confirmed the incident but declined further comment when asked if any part of the deceased woman was removed by her assailants.

A visit to the visit to the family’s residence at Igun Street in the state capital was unsuccessful as none of them were in the house. They were said to have gone to the village in connection with the incident.

Meantime, an inferno last Thursday, reduced to rubbles House No.8 on Wisdom Street, Benin City, and rendered the occupants of the building homeless.

The fire was said to have started at a fashion designer’s shop about 12.10am on the fateful day as a result of unplugged iron after work.

83-year-Old widow and landlady of the building; Mrs. Lucy Omorowa appealed to concerned authority to come to her aid.

For emotion laden Samson Omorowa who is the Landlord of the affected building, he said, “The incident is the worst disaster in life. “It was a careless system from the tailor. I have sounded series of warning to them”.

He said he has lost all his belongings to the inferno even as he appeal for assistance from both the government and concerned Nigerians
