Sprinter Agnes Osazuwa has told the Athletics Federation of Nigeria not to make the mistake of taking the first three at the national trials to the world championships and the All African Games.
At the last Commonwealth Games in New Delhi India, the Nigeria team faced lack of quality in the relay team as the president of the AFN, Solomon Ogba insisted on taking only the athletes who met set standards.
But Osazuwa argued that performances before and during the trials should not be used as a criteria to make the final list of athletes to the upcoming events.
“I hope that they wouldn’t contemplate taking only the top three to the world championships. What they should do is to take the best six into camp. This would enable athletes with low performances to improve.
“We can just use the trials to conclude who will make the final team,” Osazuwa argued.
