I went into robbery in search of money to settle my lecturer – Imo varsity student suspect

A 29-year-old Economics graduate of Imo State University, IMSU, Owerri, Mr. Obasi Abah, has been arrested by the State Police Command for armed robbery, while his colleague in crime simply identified as “Activity” is now on the run.

Speaking exclusively to Crime Guard after being paraded at the State Police Headquarters, Owerri, Mr. Abah confirmed that he was not only lured into the act but was also nabbed in the act by the same people he and his colleague wanted to rob.

Recounting how he was nabbed, the suspect said he went to Paul and Paul Hostel at Nkwor Orji to see his friend, adding that they later stepped out and tried snatching the telephone of a woman, who was walking home with her children.

“We tried to snatch her phones but she resisted it. Her husband later returned and a fierce struggle ensued. More people arrived the scene, following the distress calls and they overpowered me, while my colleague disappeared”, Abah recounted.

Abah, who claimed to be a native of Abiriba, Abia State but resident in Aba, said that he needed money to settle the reconciling officer of the University because without giving him some money, he would not have given him his clearance paper.

On how he procured the locally-made pistol and cartridge, Abah said his friend brought the gun and even suggested that they should “make the quick run”.

Answering a question on how his family members are feeling about his predicament, the suspect said: “They are completely disappointed. My mum’s reaction is that of complete disappointment. I have taken the police to where Activity lives but he has run away”
