Betlegeuse Art Competition Kicks off

As part its contributions to the development of the visual art sector in the country ,an art organisation, Betleguese last week joined the list of art sponsors in the country.

The body which has been in the business of promoting arts in the country and beyond through exhibition, education and scholarship last week, announced the launch of its entry into the art competition with her first national art competition with the theme, My Culture, My Nigeria.

Addressing the press last week in Lagos, the founder of the organisation, Emmanuel Ugbale disclosed that the art competition which is endorsed by Society of Nigeria Artist, Lagos State chapter is aimed at developing visual arts in Nigeria and is also intended to improve and change the creative skills of younger artists in the country.

He also disclosed that the competition which will be held annually is open to all categories of artists in the country but however, restricted to painting alone. The submission of entries which is already ongoing in the five zones of the country kicked off in June and will end on September 14th while the finals is scheduled to hold on September 25 in Lagos .

He further disclosed that the winner of the competition will go home with One million Naira, second prize, Seven Hundred and fifty Thousand Naira while third prize will collect Five Hundred Thousand Naira. There will also be consolation prizes in the form of scholarship and internship for others.

According the programme of events, interested artists are expected to submit their works on line through the company’s web site. After that, the works will be subjected to screening by a panel of judges who will look at the creativity, skill , innovation among other things to select the three winners from each zone that will compete for the finals scheduled to hold on the 25th of September in Lagos with an art exhibition of the works and that of other selected artist.
