WORRIED by the rate of auto crashes which has claimed many lives within two months on the highways across Ondo State, an oil major, Chevron Nigeria Limited, has commenced a campaign to control the menace by distributing sleeping prevention gadgets to drivers. The sleep prevention gadget a device is fixed to the ear of the driver to trigger an alarm in case of drowsiness.
The Star Deep water Petroleum Limited, a subsidiary of the oil company, packaged the campaign. The event, which is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR), was organised by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Ondo State Sector Command, in collaboration with a non governmental organisation, Arrive Alive Road Safety Initiative and sponsored by Chevron.
At the event with the theme, “Truck Safety: A time for Action”, commercial drivers were urged to pay more attention to safety measures on the road. The General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs of CNL, Femi Odumabo, said truck safety campaign was consistent with the company’s tradition of care and commitment to safety of lives on Nigerian Roads.
The Sector Commander of FRSC, Ondo State Command, Mr John Meheux, said the programme was timely as road transportation had been the leading mode of transportation in the country.
