ABUJA-Ohanaeze Ndigbo has already begun preparations towards ensuring that the office of President of Nigeria was occupied by an indigene of the South-East zone in 2015.
This was disclosed yesterday by Mr. Eze Obi, Chairman of Abuja chapter of the apex Pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization in a chat with journalists.
He explained that the group decided to begin its preparations early because it intended to send strong signals about the determination of Ndigbo to produce the nation’s next President in 2015.
He also expressed disappointment at the activities of some indigenes of the zone who were hell bent on frustrating Prof. Barth Nnaji from being appointed Minister under the in-coming administration of President Goodluck Jonathan.
He said: “Ohaneze frowns on the Igbo who prefer to their brothers and sistersbring down, instead of projecting them positively.”
He further stated that Ohanaeze Ndigbo had no doubt that Prof. Nnaji, who had already served as Special Adviser on Power to President Jonathan, would surely deliver if he was appointed as Minister for Power under the incoming dispensation.
He expressed worry that this type of attitude was also responsible for Dr Okwesilieze’s Nwodo’s removal from office as Chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP-a position hitherto zoned to the South-East.
“Now that position ( National Chairman of PDP) has been occupied by somebody from another zone in the country, this is detrimental to the collective interest of Ndigbo,” he said.
