Former Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi is wondering why Nigerians are pressing the panic button over the team’s struggles to qualify for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations, being co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Keshi, who was involved in a tough battle with current handler, Samson Siasia, over the vacant managerial position, told Sports Vanguard that it was too early in the day for Nigerians to start worrying over the team’s chances to finally make the trip to the tournament.
Speaking on the sidelines of the testimonial match organied for Nwankwo Kanu at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos, the Hawks of Togo gaffer, warned that such doubts were capable of weighing down the players, who in turn, might cave in to the prevailing situation and miss the final.
“Why are Nigerians worrying all over again? Why are they worried over the chances of the Eagles to qualify for next year’s Nations Cup”, Keshi asked rhetorically.
“They should not worry because we do not want to send the wrong signals to the team. The race is still on and only the tough will survive it. The team can qualify but our doubts can actually cause a lot of harm to them, so we should stop all these worries because there is no cause for alarm”, said Keshi.
