Ijesha Youth Association, IYA, has hailed the nomination of Erelu Olusola Obada, former Deputy Governor of Osun State for a ministerial post by President Goodluck Jonathan.
IYA dismissed insinuations that her nomination was not that of the state PDP elders, as untenable.
The leader of the group, Abayomi Fadairo, said the former Deputy Governor’s nomination shows that President Goodluck Jonathan was not ready to compromise merit in his cabinet.
According to him, “Olusola Obada is an illustrious daughter of Ijeshaland. We consider her nomination as a good step in the right direction because it is a sure case of a round peg in a round hole. The antecedent of the ministerial nominee as a politician and administrator will come handy if she is confirmed as a minister”.
The leader of the group said Obada as a deputy Governor in Osun State for almost eight was a loyal deputy and a hardworking person who added value to the government.
“President Jonathan had made the actualization of 35 per cent of women in his cabinet a campaign issue before the April general election. He repeatedly assured the women that they would enjoy 35 per cent of government appointments if he won the election.”
