The Leading Universities in the world (also Known as IVY league Universities) prefer to offer admission to holders of International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, the principal Green springs school Lekki Mrs Ruth Bello Giwa made this observation in Lagos recently while addressing Staff, students and parents during the public presentation of the newly introduced Two year IB Diploma programme.
She noted that unlike in the past when holders of advanced level certificate were the favourities for admission by the IVY League universities current trends have shown that IB Diploma holders are usually the first to get admission.
Also they are increasingly the ones who come out in first class and also proceed to get the best jobs available anywhere in the world.
“It is for these reasons and more that I recommend IB Diploma to you parents. It is cheaper because those who have this Diploma are exempted from some courses at the university level.
This reduces the time and money they have to spend to complete the first degree programme” the principal added. On the relevance of the programme to the situation in our country, Mrs Giwa said the content of the programme was designed to promote creativity and critical thinking in the students.
“This is very important because we need a young generation of people who will turn things around in this country, Right now you will need to wait for six months to process visa to visit America.
We need people who will make our country attractive to visitors for business and other reasons.
The IB Diploma programme is capable of making the students develop capacity for bringing about change and this is why it is relevant to our situation in this country so that even if the children go abroad to study they can come back and improve things in this country.
The principal disclosed that IB Diploma at Green Springs School is the third of its kind existing in Nigeria now. The unique thing about IB Diploma at Green Springs School is that all the teachers were specifically trained to run the programme.
And the teachers are prepared to give necessary supervision to the students and render assistance especially when it comes to the critical stage of writing the long essay of about 4,000 words which is a major requirement for the Diploma.
