In a renewed to boost its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive and to help promote government’s efforts on environmental cleanliness, Macleans, a toothpaste brand from GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Nigeria (GSK) Plc, said its partnering Passion House to clean up Amukoko, a suburb in Ifelodun Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
Macleans’ partnership with Passion House, a non-governmental organisation, was also supported by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) to clean major zones of Amukoko. The brand also provided free dental checks and product sampling to over 1000 participants.
Mr. Michael Shobowale, Human Resources Director of GSK, Alhaja Kudirat Adigun; Chairperson, Ifelodun Local Council Development Area, Mr. Richard Tella, Environmental Health Officer, Ifelodun LCDA and other top management team of GSK as well as the general public and Students from various Schools participated in the clean up exercise.
Shobowale who led the GSK team said that there is a strong synergy between a healthy environment and a healthy oral cavity. He stated that, complementing government efforts in keeping the drainages and the streets clean especially at this rainy season informed their support and contribution to the clean up as well offering free dental checks to the people.
His words, “We are here to restate our commitment to environmental fortification and assure our consumers of quality product that is able to strengthen their teeth from inside out. It is also to play out our mission of improving the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer,” Shobowale said.
He further explained that, Macleans has shown great commitment to promoting, protecting and educating Nigerians on the need to take good care of their oral cavity by supporting various initiatives over the years.
Corroborating, Tella commended Macleans for promoting oral hygiene in Nigeria and said that environmental clean up should be a joint effort of government, corporate bodies and individuals. Continuing, he said, “It’s a welcome partnership at this time of the year when drainages need to be unblocked from dirts and debris.
