Federal College of Education (Technical) Akoka, Lagos has been given 250,000 -dollar- grant by the World Bank. Speaking at a forum organised to sensitise the staff and students of the college on the need to embrace the Science and Technology Education Post Basic (STEP B) project in Lagos, the Acting Provost of the College, Mr Sijibomi Olusanya, said that the World Bank’s 250,000-dollar-grant to the institution would be used to facilitate ICT-based learning.
Mr Olusanya said that the project targeted only science and technology-related educational institutions, senior secondary schools, polytechnics, colleges of education and universities, as well as research institutes.
He further said that the primary objective of the project was to improve the quality and relevance of science and technology education, while enhancing the development of positive attitudes and values in ICT practitioners.
With this grant, the college has now join the league of educational institutions and research organisations that have benefited from the immense opportunities provided by the project. Modern teaching and learning could only be meaningful and purposeful, if they are ICT_based.
In the words of Mr Olusanya “The training of students in our present_day time is driven by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and this compels students and teachers alike to embrace the dynamics of ICT. Teachers and learners would be out of tune if they have no adequate knowledge of basic ICT applications, at least to enhance teaching and learning,”.
