A Customary court sitting in Abeokuta, Ogun State has dissolved the 14 years old marriage between a business man Mr. Mutiu Taiwo and a Nursing officer Mrs.Sakirat Taiwo both residents of Abeokuta.
The marriage which was blessed with three children, Taiwo Taiwo 13, Kehinde Taiwo 13, and Maryam Taiwo 10, was dissolved on the ground that the respondent, Sakirat, allegedly displayed high level of irresponsibility in her matrimonial home, especially as regards the maintenance and up keep of the children as well as disobedience to the petitioner.
The petitioner had asked the court to grant him the custody of the children in order to grant them access to sound education and good training which was allegedly denied them by the respondent. According to him, he parted ways with the woman in June 2010 and arranged the children for qualitative education by putting them in a boarding house before they were later withdrawn by their mother ‘’All the children were living with their mother since we parted ways in June 2010.
“The children are not performing to my satisfaction, however, the way and manner she trained them are not encouraging to my satisfaction. I decided to put them in a boarding house in the first term of the academic season, but unexpectedly, the respondent went to the School’s hostel and withdrew them and brought the children back to where she rented in a face me and face you apartment.
For the period the children stayed with her, they have relaxed in their academics and their standard of learning started depreciating because of her profession as a Nursing officer, the children are usually left alone whenever she is on night duty.
“I have now made up my mind to re-arrange the children in a school hostel because of their schooling and welfare to enable them have a sound education and good training. I am to add that all these arrangements are in the pipeline if the custody of the children is granted to me,’’ he pleaded.
The respondent however affirmed that the Plaintiff was the father of her children and agreed with him that the children are put in boarding house while she was allowed to visit them once a while.
