Umuahia – Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State has restated his determination to hand over power to a successor of Ukwa-Ngwa extraction in 2015.
Orji made this known weekend in Umuahia when legal practitioners of Ukwa-Ngwa extraction paid him a solidarity visit.
“I want to reiterate that promise. It’s a promise that has come from my mind and I feel it’s something what doing. Fairplay, justice and equity; that is the right thing to do and I am for it; real.
“I want to also pledge once more that come the year 2015, I will no longer be eligible to contest for governor, but I will be very relevant. And that we shall hand over the mantle of leadership of this state to one of you.
“That is my desire; that is my pledge. What I want from you is only cooperation for you to support me now, so that I will support you that time.”
Orji said that the candidates from that part of Abia, who contested the 2011 governorship election with him, were seeking for recognition because they knew from the deepest part of their mind that it was not proper.
He said he decided to contest election a second term of office because “I saw hell in my first term. I wasn’t allowed to show my real self. I said I will not like any of you to have that experience, which I have.”
Orji stressed that in his administration’s quest to take Abia to the next level, it was essential that “you from that area of Abia should help me”.
“It’s essential that you from that area of Abia State should help me now because if you help me to make achievements, when you come on board, it’s going to be easy for you.
“The problem I am having today, especially in Aba is because there was nothing on ground when I came; nothing on ground.
“The roads that were built were just roads that were not solid. It was a question of compacting the soil and sprinkling it with asphalt.”
