Abuja – The North East PDP caucus in the House of Representatives said in Abuja that it supported the zoning arrangement of political offices at the national level which ceded the deputy speakership to the North East.
The ruling PDP had insisted that status quo be maintained in respect of the elections of the Senate presidency and Speakership of the House of Representatives.
This is contained in communiqué issued and signed by the chairman of the group, Rep. Anthony Madwatte (PDP-Adamawa) on Thursday.
He said that since the PDP insisted on status quo to be maintained, the zone should have been allowed to produce the next speaker of the House.
“The caucus believes that since the zoning arrangement entailed that the status quo be maintained, that invariably means that the zone should be allowed to produce the deputy speaker, a position the zone currently occupies,’’ he said.
He said that any other arrangement outside the current one would amount to total disregard for the entire North East region. (NAN)
