I’ll help fulfil the aspirations of all Lagosians – Fashola

Lagos – Gov. Babatunde  Fashola was on Sunday,  sworn-in for a second term of four years at the Tafawa  Balewa Square in Lagos where he promised to consolidate on the achievements recorded by his administration in the last four years.

In his inaugural address, shortly after taking the oath of office before Justice Inumidun  Akande, Chief judge of Lagos State, Fashola said the import of his renewed mandate was to help fulfill the hopes and aspirations of all Lagosians.

The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN,  reports that Fashola secured a second term in office after emerging victorious in the last elections with a total of 1,509,113 votes. His closest opponent scored 300,450 votes.

“I understand the import of this mandate; it is a mandate in support of the continuation of the transformation we have collectively achieved in the last four years.

“It is a mandate for good governance and the continuation of the people-oriented policies that take us daily towards the brighter and rewarding future.

“Let me assure you all that as a leader of the team, I cherish the mandate, I am fully conscious of the import of our hopes and aspirations and I remain as committed today as I was in 2007 to do my best to remain worthy of the mandate,” he said.

The governor said his topmost priority was a greater commitment to law and order to help sustain the achievements recorded so far.

According to him, the government is renewing its commitment to law and order because it is the most essential pre-condition for the achievement of all the aims and aspirations of the government and people of Lagos State.

Fashola also promised to invest more in security and safety so as to further reduce crime rate,  adding that government would be uncompromising in enforcing laws.

He said he would expand existing policies on education, poverty alleviation, youth  and women empowerment, and other areas that have  direct bearing on peoples’ lives.

The governor  also said the administration would focus more on strengthening the state`s economy which he described as the fifth largest in sub-Saharan Africa, adding the aim was to build a more prosperous state with plenty for all inhabitants.

He urged Lagosians to give   more support to the government,  in the new dispensation as their co-operation was necessary to take the state to the next level.
