ABAKALIKI – The 29-member cabinet of the Governor Martin Elechi-led government of Ebonyi State was at the end of its weekly meeting, Tuesday, thrown into anxiety, with a good number of them lobbying to return for another term in office.
Vanguard reliably gathered that at the meeting, the governor was quoted to have told them that their handover to their respective permanent secretaries was preparatory to the dissolution of the cabinet.
Mostly affected are those thought to have played double standards during the April polls, who are being described as “being under PDP umbrella, while eating corn of ANPP”.
Traditional rulers and some key players in the state’s polity now flock Government House, hoping to get attention of the governor, and canvass for their candidates.
Ironically, Government House sources revealed that the governor was not disposed to such discussions, even as the doors to his office had become less open to visitors since rumours of cabinet dissolution became imminent.
Meanwhile, the calculation among political observers in the state had posited that less than five of the 18 commissioners would make it back to the yet-to-be-constituted cabinet.
