Abuja-Accreditation of voters witnessed mixed fortunes in voter turnout in Kogi and Oyo States as well as Sokoto State where the exercise took off amid tight security.

In Kogi, where the governorship election was shelved to 2012 by a Court of Appeal judgment the turnout of voters for the House of Assembly election across the three senatorial districts was low due to what was generally seen as voter apathy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that unlike the National Assembly and Presidential elections, most polling units in the state which were always crowded as early as 8 a. m. were almost deserted.

However, In Oyo State, eligible voters turned out in an impressive manner as the governorship and House of Assembly elections got underway on Tuesday.

A correspondent of the NAN, who visited Peoples’ Primary School, Adeoyo Road and collation centre for Ward 4, Ibadan South West Local Government, reports that as early as 7.30 a.m. more than 1,000 voters made up of the aged and young had converged to get accredited.

INEC’s ad-hoc workers, mostly the NYSC members, were also seen loading electoral materials into two commercial buses, taking them to their respective polling units, as early as 7.45 a.m.

In Kogi, while most polling officers in Lokoja, Okene, Idah and Kabba reported at their various polling units between 6.25 a.m.  and 7.30 a.m. the electorate only trickled in from 8 a.m. for accreditation as against the influx of voters recorded during the presidential polls.
