ABUJA-Senate President, David Mark, yesterday urged President Goodluck Jonathan not to forget the electoral promises he made to Nigerians.
Senator Mark, in a congratulatory message by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, said the victory of President Jonathan representd a new hope and bright future for Nigerians.
He also described the election as a paradigm shift in Nigeria’s electioneering process because the electorate voted for a Nigerian candidate.
The statement reads: “This election has changed the face of politics in Nigeria. It marks the beginning of a new era where candidates are assessed based on their merit and programmes and not the other way round”.
”Mr. President should remember his covenant with Nigerians never to let them down. This bond should neither be broken nor betrayed because all Nigerians across the divide have accepted Mr. President as the thin line between them and the realization of their ambitions in life”.
“The sing song out there is that President Jonathan represents a break from the past, and he will do things differently in a more positive way.”
He promised that the National Assembly would lay a solid legislative framework for the executive arm of government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizenry.
“We shall play our roles effectively. We shall compliment the executive to ensure that the wheel of development moves across the length and breadth of Nigeria, unhindered,” Mark said.
