Gov Aliyu of Niger re-elected…as ANPP wins Zamfara

Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger state  has been declared the winner of Tuesday’s gubernatorial poll in the state with 543,205 votes to beat five other contestants.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Mohammed Audu, said that the governor also won 25 per cent of the votes cast in all the 25 Local Government Areas of the state, while Alhaji Bako Shettima of CPC had 244,770 votes.

He said that Mr David Umaru of the ANPP polled 68,368 votes while the ACN candidate, Alhaji Abubakar  Bwari, got 49,960 votes.

But in Zamfara, Gov. Mahmuda Shinkafi of Zamfara has lost his second term bid to Alhaji Abdulazeez  Abubakar, the ANPP governorship candidate in the state.

Shinkafi of the PDP scored 460,656 votes against 514,962 votes scored by the ANPP candidate.

The result was announced amidst tight security, following political tension created by the unauthorised announcement of election results by the local radio.

The Returning Officer in the state, Prof. Idris Funtua, declared  Abubakar of the ANPP as the Governor-elect, having fulfilled INEC requirements and scored majority of the votes cast.

Meanwhile, the ANPP secured simple majority in the State House of Assembly, having won 13 out of the 24 seats in the  Assembly while the PDP got eleven seats
