CANDIDATE of the Democratic Peoples Party, DPP, Ughelli North constituency II, Mr Akpodiete Edoja, has clinched the state House of Assembly seat, to represent the constituency in the House. He won with 20,008 votes, beating Mr Isaac Akpoveta of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who polled 9,110, to the second position.
The incumbent representative of the constituency in the House, Mr Abel Oshevire of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, polled 5,875.
In Ughelli North constituency I, Mr Samuel Mariere scored 8, 626 to beat Mr Friday Onodjae of ACN, and incumbent representative of the constituency in the state House of Assembly.
The winner of the election, where the DPP House of Assembly candidate, Mr Charles Oniyere, polled 3,820, could not, however, be declared by the returning officer, Dr U.Owhe-Uredghe on the grounds that the election was not held in some polling units.
Reacting to the outcome of the election, Mr Samuel Mariere expressed dissatisfaction with the decision of the Returning Officer not to announce the result. On his part, Onodjae said the Returning Officer was right not have announced the result, since the election was cancelled in seven units in the constituency.
Oshevire, said the outcome of the result was a reflection of the will of God and the wishes of the constituents, adding that he would accept it in good faith.
