Panic in Ughelli over woman’s murder

PANDEMONIUM, Saturday night, broke out in Ughelli, Delta State, following the suspected assassination of a 26-year-old woman on Evueta Street in the Ughelli metropolis.

The girl, who was identified as Julie Oghifo, a native of Akpere-Olomu in Ughelli South Local Government Area of the state, was allegedly attacked by her assassins at about 9pm on the ever busy street without help coming her way.

Our correspondent who was at the scene of the incident, observed that she was shot on her left ribs, and the corpse of the unsuspecting woman was left on the street till about 10am, yesterday, before it was removed by the Ughelli police. Her GSM handset was found beside the corpse.

According to a dependable source, the woman lived in the neighbourhood with her boyfriend, who was said to be out of town, days before the incident, disclosing that she was a 100 level OND part-time student of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the deceased girl matriculated last Friday, adding that she was also working as a checker in the Ughelli/Patani road branch of First Bank, Plc.

Speaking further, the source said the girl was late last year attacked by some persons when she was into GSM recharge card business and was hospitalized as a result of the beating she got from the attack.

Elder brother of the deceased girl, Mr Henry Oghifo who spoke with our correspondent, described her as industrious and peace loving.

Oghifo said they have officially lodged the complaint with the police, adding that the circumstance leading to her painful death was already being investigated. He added that her corpse has been deposited in the Ughelli central hospital mortuary.

As at the time of filing this report, effort was still being made to reach the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the Ughelli ‘A’ division.
