The Federal Government has sacked four contractors handling the construction of Housing scheme in Ikang, Bakassi Local Government Areas of Cross Rivers State over non-performance.
The affected contractors whose contracts were revoked include, Messrs Omenario Resources Ltd.; Omerc White Nig. Ltd.; Bermas Investment Nig. Ltd.; and Wellwater Ltd. Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe who announced the revocation of the contracts at the Ikang site of the housing scheme, recalled that the four contractors have all collected the APGs since the award last year.
He regretted that while two of them have done practically nothing the other two have not reported to the project site. He added that the two who are yet to report to the site will be handed over to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for government to recover their funds.
Orubebe who had earlier inspected the Ministry’s skills acquisition centre in Ikot Nakanda, Akpabuyo LGA of Cross River State expressed satisfaction with the progress of works in the sites but urged the contractors to further step up their performance in order to meet the November 2011 deadline.
He said, “you can see the determination of the contractors, and we hope that they should continue, almost all the sites except one are doing quite well and Mr. President is eager to see that this things take off.
“The youths of the Niger Delta would love opportunity to be trained in all areas that we have highlighted from the beginning and the Ministry is working hard to see that the needed support is given to all contractors to enable them work and we want to see that these prospects are commissioned in November.”
