NO fewer than 9,000 security personnel would be deployed to provide security in Edo State, next Saturday, during the National Assembly elections.
This was disclosed by the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Omojola, yesterday, after a closed door meeting with representatives of Inter Agency Committee on Security for the April elections.
He said that the security personnel would cut across men of the Nigeria Police, military, Federal Road Safety Commission, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Customs and the Nigeria Immigration Service.
“We are ready to make sure that all is well. The inter-agency is already fine tuning arrangements to make sure that the elections are free,” Omojola said.
Also speaking at the meeting, the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Rose Obouiforibo, expressed optimism that Saturday’s election would be free and fair.
She explained that the security operatives at each polling unit would also be held liable for any rancour during the elections, adding that INEC was ready for the elections.
