Coach of the Walya Antelopes of Ethiopia, Ify Onuora has slammed his team for being ridiculous in the 4-0 defeat to the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier at the weekend.
Pnuora had boasted before the game to the press that his East African side, more reputed for their prowess in long distance races than football, were going to shock Nigeria .
In a down to earth interview after the game, Onuora said that he will not be surprised if the football authorities ask him to go after such a humiliating defeat in the hands of Nigeria.
“The disappointing thing for me is that it was a ridiculous performance and that for me is just not acceptable at all. We were in shambles Although we have not played friendly matches since December, it is still not good enough for us to lose with such a high margin.
“I thought commonsense would prevail in the way we played and that it should have been better but that did not happen. We fell short principally because we played against a better side.
One is always under pressure when a game is lost and sure, I know they will be asking questions when we get home but the players who did not play could not have made any difference. They might ask me to go but that is not the end of the world“, added Onuora.
He said all hope was not yet lost in their quest to steal a dramatic Nations Cup qualification ticket.
