Nigeria’s Falcons are one week into their preparations towards the women world cup June in Germany. The coach Eucheria Uche and the rest of the team are hoping to play quality friendly games with Europan teams that will put them in a competitive mood.
The Falcons resumed camping last Sunday and according to the coach the players are enthusiastically, responding to training and she expects keen competition for places in the team when the foreign-based players join the camp in the tail end of their preparations for the World Cup.
“We are doing well in training and the players are looking foward to the tournament.
“However, everyone of us underscores the importance of having quality friendly games in Europe. This is because we want the team to be in a competitive mood when the world cup starts.
“I have submitted my programme to the federation and we are waiting for the next line of action,” said the coach.
Nigeria will open their account on June 26 against France, hosts Germany are their next opponents on June 30, while they will take on Canada on July 5. The Falcons are hoping to collect the maximum points from France and Canada.
But this could be a forlorn hope as Canada on Monday showed that they are strong contenders for the World Cup during a tournament in Cyprus, where they won five of the six games. Meanwhile the Falcons are yet to kick a ball, since their ill-fated winter trip to Germany, where they were battered 8-0 by the defending champions.
