ADO-EKITI – As the April 2011 general election draws nearer, the former president,West African Bar Association and human rights crusader, Mr. Femi Falana, has urged Nigerians to rise up against election riggers, saying “it is high time we stop going to courts in deciding genuine winners of election.”
According to the legal practitioner, “it is becoming embarrassing that Nigerians are yet to imbibe the culture of modern democratic government where those who lose out in elections are made to embrace the winners.”
He noted that elections were held last year in Ghana and South Africa with little or less problem of acrimonies, saying it was unacceptable to have cases of election petitions as many as 1,000 not to even talk of about 7,000 petitions that was the case in the country.
His words, “let the enemies of democracy go to tribunals and not the genuine winners of the elections, we must put an end to that,”
