US Embassy marks Black Colleges Day

In observance of National African American History month, the US Consulate in conjunction with Barack Obama America corner, Ovie Brume Foundation, last week, celebrated the history of black colleges and universities in the United States which were established after the civil war to educate African Americans irrespective of ethnicity or economic status.

According to the educational advising assistant to the US Consulate General Ms Ifeanyi Olagbaju who treated audience with presentations highlighting the history of the establishment of black institutions which presently is dominated by African students was to check racial discrimination.

As part of the consulates’ commitment to assist academically excellent Nigerians acquire quality education, America through the US achievers programme set up in 2007 has pledged continued assistance to pay for standardized text and application fees in addition to applying for scholarships, though with no guarantee that they will get full scholarship. The Consulate also announced the lunching two weeks ago of a work station on geography and vocabulary for kids.
