MAKURDI—Benue State Chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Comrade Abba Yaro, and Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Okpe Andrew Onoja, have narrowly escaped death after being attacked and shot at by unknown gunmen in Makurdi.
Onoja, who was shot in his hands, is convalescing in a Makurdi private hospital.
The matter has since been reported to the Police and the State Security Services who have commenced investigations into the shooting.
In the light of the development, the party warned of the consequences of anyone or group unleashing terror on the opposition in the state.
According to a statement by the party, it urged politicians to desist from act of violence, warning that it was heating up the state to a boiling point.
Part of the statement read, “The political situation in Benue State is heating steadily to a boiling point, but we of the Action Congress of Nigeria are progressives and democrats who do not believe in confrontation but peace and dialogue”.
The party maintained that it would continue to work and operate under the ambit of the law governing the electoral process in line with internationally acceptable dictates even as it reiterated its determination to wrestle power from PDP in the state.
ACN said: “We are all living witnesses to the fact that during President Jonathan’s visit to Benue State, no single project was presented for commissioning except a renovated primary school.”
