Calabar—In a bid to mobilize women to participate actively in the 2011 general elections, wife of the President, Dame Patience Goodluck Jonathan will on March 1, 2011 flag off the Peoples Democratic party, PDP South-South Women’s zonal rally at the U .J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar in Cross River State.
During the occasion, the Wife of the Cross River State Governor and Zonal Coordinator PDP Women South-South Zone, Mrs. Obioma Liyel Imoke will host the First Lady and wives of PDP flag bearers in the zone.
In a statement by Marilyn Omuabor, Special Assistant, Media to Mrs. Imoke, the rally is expected to commence series of political campaigns in the various states within the zone.
According to the release, “the scheduled PDP women’s zonal rallies are geared to engender the mass awareness of women at all levels to their rights and illustrate the unifying force of formidable women within the PDP nationwide”.
It added that the rallies will serve as a strong and unifying voice for PDP women in Nigeria.
It was gathered that the zonal rallies which was slated for February 21, 2011 to March 15, 2011 is expected to be rounded off in Abuja on March 26, 2011.
Omuabor said at the rally, women will be enlightened and encouraged to support their husbands to ensure peaceful elections and meaningful development in the country.
