The motion for the adoption of the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and his Vice, Arc Namadi Sambo was moved by the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Engr. Emeka Sibeudu and supported by the National Vice Chairman of the South West, Alhaji Toumi Shoumi and the National Secretary of the Party, Alhaji Sanni Shinkafi, among others.
Right from the time President Jonathan indicated interest to contest, Governor Peter Obi has championed his course with other Governors of the South-East on the reason that he has made firm commitment to the East and had indeed gone ahead to implement some of those commitments.
Speaking at the event, the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh said that the decision to adopt President Jonathan was taken after wide consultations among stakeholders. He said that the party took into consideration the fact that he was doing well, carrying all the parts of the State along in his efforts to build a new Nigeria. He thanked APGA faithful for the confidence reposed in them to continue to serve. He described APAG as a formidable party that will continue to grow from strength to strength.
Speaking at the event, the Governor obi said that APGA was committed to enthroning a leadership that will use the resources of the State for the good of the people.
The Former Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Celestine Omehia said that President Goodluck Jonathan deserved to be supported for his vision and dedication to the country. Sen. Chris Anyanwu on her own part said that Jonathan represented a new Nigeria APGA wanted to identify with.
Those at the event include the Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi and his wife, Mrs Margaret Peter-Obi; the Leader of APGA, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, represented by his wife, Mrs. Bianca Ojukwu; the National Chairman of APGA Sir Victor Umeh and her Wife, lady Prisca Umeh; the Deputy Governor of Anmabra State, Engr Emeka Sibeudu; the National Secretary of the party, Alhaji Sanni Shinkafi; former Governor of Rivers State and APGA Governorship candidate in Rivers State, Dr. Celestine Omehia; former Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili; Senator Joy Emodi; Former Minister of Health, Dr. Tim Menakaya; Dr. Emeka Nwankwu; Chief Rochas Okorocha; Senator Chris Anyanwu, members of Anambra State EXCO who are APGA, among others.
After the Convention, APGA officially flagged of its campaign at the Ekwueme Square, Awka, where the National Chairman of the Party handed flags to those representing APGA in various positions.
The Convention was witnessed by officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) and a mammoth crowd of APGA members and other Anambraraians.
