Crisis is brewing in the Bomadi/Patani chapter of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, in Delta State, as one of the candidates for the Bomadi/Patani Federal constituency, Godspower Akpos, has insisted he won the party primaries, which Dr. Chris Ekiyor, is claiming he won.
Godspower’s counsel, Mr A.Efole, in a statement, yesterday, said his client was denied victory at the party primaries.
According to Efole, from media reports, Mr Ekiyor scored 4,586 votes in Patani Local Government Area and 2,461 in Bomadi Local Government Area, totaling 7,057 votes, adding that Mr Akpos, polled 8,950 votes from two the councils.
The statement accused Ekiyor of participating in the primaries of the People Democratic Party, PDP, where he lost to Nicholas Mutu on January 9, 2011 and without tendering his resignation letter, he crossed carpeted to ACN.
According to him, “Ekiyor’s nomination in ACN was tantamount to double nomination which the Electoral Act 2010 frowns at,” adding that the result sheet presented to him by the returning officer clearly showed that Godspower won the primaries.
